SQL The Complete Beginner Guide Step By Step Instructions The Black Book eBook Byron Francis
I generally don't write negative reviews, but this book does not deliver as a beginner's guide to SQL. It's not just that it's bad - entire topics required for a beginning SQL book are simply missing. I'm a graduate professor and ordered this in the hopes of replacing a more aging text I used for a beginner's class. To me, this would involve these topics at least:1. Modeling your data and designing a schema for it
2. Creating tables, indexes and views
3. SELECT statements to get data out of your schema, with good coverage of the relational model and JOIN types
4. DML statements: INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE (and associated constraints)
5. Transactions and concurrency
When I first opened this book I wanted to post a section for students to learn about the different JOIN types. Oops, the book has no index at all. The table of contents has only 5 entries for the entire 200-page book. So I manually scanned through the pages instead, and got to nearly the very end before anything other than table design and creation statements were covered. SELECT statements are only briefly covered in the context of creating VIEWs. No JOINs at all. No DML, no practical use of a database at all. I really cannot fathom what audience this book was for.

Excellent book. I was looking for a manual to learn SQL and do it fast. This book is exactly what i needed. I'm starting out on learning SQL and this book provides great beginners guide to mastering SQL.
It was written in a noobie friendly way, using simple words that are easy to comprehend. Information is organised and presented very clearly and I honestly enjoy the learning process. For someone who doesn't know anything about SQL like me, I find this book extremely useful as a great stepping stone in this SQL learning journey.
